The close union of several aspects distinguishes the whole Sulcis Iglesiente area: natural, archaeological and neglected mining settlements as an evidence of unchanged activities during the course of centuries. This site does not use cokie
We'll visit St Giovanni mine, not far from Iglesias, where in 1952, miners digging out a rise casually discovered a beautiful grotto, unique of its kind in the world. What makes St Barbara grotto so peculiar is the presence of dark barite tabular crystals.
Once out of the grotto, driving along the old miners’ road to Nebida is almost an inescapable choice if you want to have a chance to admire some of the most striking views of Sardinia.
Upon request we'll visit Monte Sirai, fortified town, founded by the Phoenicians in the 750 b.C. to controlle the mines of the Sulcis region. The escavations, started in 1962 and still in progress, allow us to see the ancient phoenician and punic houses, temples and necropoli...
Upon request we can combine the previous visits to one or more of the followings:
- wine tasting & winery tour
- easy walk to the nuragic Giants grave of Barrancu Mannu
- easy archaeo - walking to Pani Loriga, neolithic, phoenician and punic site.
